Potential security incident in Zikim
Residents of southern kibbutz asked to remain in their homes; IDF searching for possible terrorist infiltrators.
Residents of Kibbutz Zikim in the Hof Ashkelon Regional Council have been asked to remain in their homes because of a potential security incident. The directive was also sent to residents of Netiv HaAsara. The local access road has been blocked and loud explosions have been heard in the area.

Last Thursday the residents of Zikim received a similar directive. After a few hours of searching the area, security forces discovered no suspicious elements.

Three weeks ago, Zikim was the destination for a Hamas terror attack, as two armed terrorists infiltrated from the sea. An IDF soldier sustained light injuries during a fire fight exchange in which the terrorists were killed.

Lookout positions identified the suspected infiltrators and forces were deployed in the area. Three other terrorists were located in searches conducted in the area; they were also killed by IDF forces.

Residents of the area were asked to remain inside their homes. Later it was discovered that the terrorists sent to Zikim belonged to Hamas' elite naval commando unit.
