At least 119 rockets were fired at Israel from the Gaza Strip on Sunday, 108 of them exploded inside Israel - five in urban areas - and eight others were intercepted by the Iron Dome.
Air raid sirens sounded in Sderot and Sha'ar HaNegev Regional Council and the IDF continued its activities in the Gaza Strip as Operation Protective Edge entered its 27th day on Sunday. Two rockets exploded in open areas around 8 am; no injuries or damages were reported.
While the rockets continue hitting communities near the Gaza border, residents of Be'er Sheva and central Israel also had to run for cover.
Shortly after 4pm, grad rockets were fired at Be'er Sheva, and at 5pm exactly, rocket alert sirens were sounded in Tel Aviv, Holon, Bat Yam, Rishon LeZion and many other cities in central Israel.
But while the rocket fired at central Israel was shot down by Iron Dome, some of the shrapnel from the M-75 rocket fell on the roof of a playground in a big public park in Ramat Gan. Hundreds of children and parents were at the playground at the time, but fortunately no one was hurt.
Hamas' armed wing claimed responsibility for the rockets at Tel Aviv, Be'er Sheva and Kiryat Malachi, saying it was "a response to the continuation of Israel's acts of massacre, the last of which was against a UN school in Rafah."
Over 2,000 rockets have been fired at Israel since the beginning of Operation Protective Edge, but Hamas claimed that "so far, we've tried to focus on hitting military targets, soldier concentrations... and avoid harming civilians as much as possible," the Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades said in a statement. "But defeated Israel still focuses on harming innocent Palestinian civilians."
"This policy of the State of Israel will make all Zionist cities a target for the al-Qassam Brigades... the enemy won't enjoy calm, stability and security until all of the just demands of the Palestinian people are answered - its freedom and dignity."
Several Qassam rockets exploded in open areas in Sha'ar HaNegev and Iron Dome intercepted two rockets launched on Hof Ashkelon since morning. Air raid sirens sounded in Sha'ar HaNegev and Hof Ashkelon before the missile attacks.
