Israeli airlines request compensation to 'prevent firing of many employees' in 'most difficult period in years'
Three Israeli airline companies, El-Al, Arkia, and Israir are expected to suffer serious financial troubles due to continued fighting in the Gaza Strip. The CEOs of the airlines sent a letter to government MKs Monday morning, requesting compensation funds, loans, and benefits in order to, "prevent the firing of many employees among the airlines and among their suppliers."
The CEOs stressed in the letter that financial damages resulting from the security situation are estimated to be in the hundreds of millions of dollars. "This is the most difficult period in the tourist sector for many years. This difficult crisis demands immediate attention from the Israeli government to provide a solution for Israeli aviation."
