The Palestinian stabber then started running towards moshav Azaria, with one of the other security guards firing at him and apparently missing.
  • Lior Eliyahu, one of the security guards at the scene, said: "I identified a man standing at the junction with a black (plastic) bag. He was tarrying there and after a few minutes came to the checkpoint (at the entrance to the settlement). We stopped him and asked him to go through us. We asked him where he wants to go and he said 'to work.' We asked him for ID and he innocently asked why. That was when one of the guards got suspicious, he's the one who eventually got stabbed, and he asked (the man) to open the bag. At the same time the Palestinian jumped him and stabbed him. The security guard that was with me cocked his weapon immediately and went after him (the Palestinian), firing at him. The Palestinian abandoned the bag with the knife and ran."
The security guard, a man in his early 60s, was taken to the Hadassah Medical Center on Mt. Scopus in moderate condition with stab wounds to his chest.
Security forces were scanning the area in search of the stabber.
