Hamas source: Netanyahu tried to kill Deif to 'boost collapsing popularity'

A source course to Hamas said Wednesday that despite the escalation in Gaza, the ceasefire talks in Cairo will soon be renewed and that it will be possible to reach an agreement to stop the current conflict. The source said that an agreement was signed by the Palestinians before the ceasefire broke down, but that Israel withdrew its support.

The source addressed an apparent Israeli attempt to assassinate Mohammed Deif, Hamas' military leader, saying that, "Prime Minister Netanyahu received intelligence information connected to the al-Qassam commander and used to opportunity to achieve a victory that would boost his collapsing popularity."
