An attempt to smuggle 18.8 kg of heroin from Israel to Egypt was thwarted Friday afternoon in the Taba crossing connecting the two countries. The drugs are valued at over NIS 1 million.
Security officials working at the Israeli side of the crossing, in Eilat, together with officials from the Israel Airports Authority and Eilat's anti-drug unit found the drugs hidden in a car during a search.
The drivers, from one Israel's unrecognized Bedouin villages, were arrested and taken in for further questioning.
