Location of Sobibor gas chambers discovered in archaeological excavations

Yad VaShem directorate announced Tuesday that the exact location of the gas chambers in the extermination camp Sobibor in Poland, following archaeological excavation taking place in the area. The excavations in the Nazi death camp are taking place since 2007 During which thousands of personal items were found such as rings, earrings, necklaces, perfume bottles etc.

In the past week a well was discovered in camp number one where the uprising took place.

“The discovery of the exact location of the gas chambers is an extremely important finding to the study of the Holocaust,” said Dr. David Zilberklang, Senior Historian at the International Institute for Holocaust Research at Yad Vashem.
