Pentagon: No 'credible' evidence civilians killed

WASHINGTON - The US military was looking into allegations that civilians were killed in US and allied airstrikes in Syria, a Pentagon spokesman said on Thursday, but noted they have no "credible" reporting that such deaths occurred.

The Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights and activists in Syria said that some civilians were killed in airstrikes on Wednesday, possibly wives and children of militants.

Rear Adm. John Kirby said the Pentagon is aware of the reports and is looking into it but has no evidence yet.

He noted that no US personnel who could assess battle damage are on the ground in Syria, so it could be some time before the military can confirm civilian deaths.
