Former Bat Yam mayor found guilty of breach of trust

The Magistrate Court in Tel Aviv decided on Tuesday to sentence former Bat Yam mayor Shlomi Lahiani for six months of community service after he was found guilty of breach of trust - an offense which entails moral turpitude.

The decision was made as part of a plea bargain in which Lahiani's bribery offenses were deleted from the original indictment in return for pleading guilty of breach of trust – taking checks as a loan from the municipality workers.

The prosecution asked for a one-year incarceration and moral turpitude. Lahiani's attorney's didn't object to the moral turpitude clause but asked the judge to settle for community service instead of imprisonment.
