150 protest in south Tel Aviv against High Court ruling on migrants
Some 150 residents of Tel Aviv's southern neighborhoods gathered in the Hatikvah neighborhood Saturday evening to protest against the High Court ruling ordering the closure of the Holot detention center within 90 days. During the protest, the demonstrators waved signs reading "We are fighting for our homes".
According to a State Comptroller report published earlier this year, five neighborhoods in southern Tel Aviv – Neve Shaanan, Florentin, Shapira, Kiryat Shalom and Hatikvah – contain the lion's share of the overall number of foreign nationals in Israel. The report states that in each of these areas, there is a majority of foreign nationals.
