Security forces arrested a 30-year-old woman from Petah Tikva on Monday who attempted to smuggle four illegal Palestinian workers into Israel, hidden inside her Ford vehicle, as well as a large amount of Clonex pills.
The woman was arrested after police detectives from the Samaria District spotted a suspicious looking vehicle traveling on Highway 55 in central Israel.
Upon inspecting the car, the officers found a Palestinian woman wrapped in sheets hidden in the back seat and three other Palestinians packed in the trunk of the vehicle.
A further search revealed a large amount of Colonex pills – for which the driver did not have a prescription – in her possession. An initial investigation indicated that the driver was caught while attempting to transfer the illegal aliens across the Green Line, and that the Clonex pills were used as a drug substitute. All of the involved were held for questioning.
Police are not ruling out the possibility that the driver had carried out the offenses in exchange for drugs or money, in order to acquire additional Clonex pills.
The Israeli driver was arrested near the Kafr Kassem checkpoint, where several weeks ago, security forces detained a vehicle with a driver that had attempted to enter Israel and carry out a terrorist attack.
