US-led coalition steps up strikes in Syria
WASHINGTON - The Pentagon says 21 airstrikes against Islamic State targets near the Syrian city of Kobani overnight Monday marked the largest number there in a 24-hour period since the air campaign in Syria began last month.
There also was one airstrike elsewhere in Syria against a modular oil refinery, according to US Central Command.
It said the 21 strikes near Kobani were designed to disrupt Islamic State reinforcements and resupply, and to prevent the extremist group's fighters from massing combat power on the Kurdish-held sections of Kobani.
