Lebanese defense minister in Iran to finalize deal on military cooperation

Lebanon's Defense Minister Samir Moukbel arrived in Tehran on Saturday to finalize a deal for military aid from Iran that would help the Lebanese army fight against the jihadists.

The three-day visit comes two weeks after Tehran proposed to provide equipment to the Lebanese army, that has been fighting the Islamic State and the Syrian branch of al-Qaeda, the Nusra Front, on the country's border with Syria since August.

Moukbel was also scheduled to meet with President Hassan Rouhani, Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani and the secretary of Iran's Supreme Council of National Security, Ali Shamkhani.
