Turkey says it airspace not used for US airdrops over Kobani

ANKARA - Turkish airspace was not used during airdrops carried out by the United States to support Kurdish fighters defending the Syrian border town of Kobani, a Turkish foreign ministry official said on Monday.

Kobani has been surrounded by Islamic State militants for more than a month, and Turkey has up to now refused calls from Kurdish forces to allow arms to flow through its territory to help the defenders.

US officials said on Sunday the airdrops included medical supplies and weapons provided by the Kurdish Regional Government (KRG) in Iraq.
