Piron: 1-in-3 university students to be accepted without psychometric test

Education Minister Shai Piron announced Tuesday morning a dramatic shake-up in university admission requirements, which aims to boost higher education outside of the main cities. The change means that about one third of students will not be required to sit the Psychometric Entrance Test (PET).

"One in three university students will be accepted without PETs," Piron pledged at a press conference at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem. "The change will come into effect in the coming school year. The required grades (for university entrance) will be determined each year by the level of demand, and will be published in December."
