The Egyptian authorities have prevented one of the country's most prominent pro-democracy activists from leaving for Bangkok.
Asmaa Mahfouz, a leading figure of the uprising that saw Hosni Mubarak ousted as president in February 2011, was arrested late Tuesday at Cairo airport at the request of the attorney general's office, an official said.
Mahfouz had been due to fly to Bangkok with her sister and brother-in-law.
