Syria regime launches Hebrew website to 'serve the truth'

After three years of bloody civil war, Syrian President's mouthpieces is still trying to win hearts and minds – including in Israel and Iran.

Syria's official state news agency has launched a Hebrew-language website to "serve the truth" in the bloody conflict that has already taken over 191,000 lives.

SANA - Assad's embattled regime's mouthpiece – launched a new website Sunday in Hebrew and Farsi. In a special statement for the launch, the agency explained that it decided to expand its services to the two languages to gain the upper hand in the battle for public opinion.

The Hebrew version is riddled with mistakes, both factual and grammatical. For example, the site's lead story quoted "Batriarch Kirill" aka Patriarch Kirill I of Moscow – Arabic does not have the letter 'p' and thus it is usually replaced with B.

Other stories warned of "tiror" (terror) threats to certain "fideral" (federal) buildings in the US.

Hebrew speakers with knowledge of Arabic say the majority of the site's mistakes stem from attempts to preserve Arabic grammar in Hebrew. For example, one story describes "kids aged five years" which is proper Arabic, while in Hebrew it would be "kids aged five."

In an attempt to woo Israeli readers, the site even offers insight into recent developments in the Golan Heights – divided between Israel and Syria since 1967.

While Israeli media takes pride in providing care to Syrians wounded from fighting in the Golan-region, SANA portrayed them as terrorists: "Two tirrorists (terrorists) wounded in Syria were hospitalized in an Israeli hospital," one of Sunday evening's reports read.

The report went on to describe, in broken Hebrew, how "Israeli occupation forces hospitalized in a Nahriya hospital overnight two tirrorists (terrorists) wounded in Syria, and reveal inaccurate numbers about number of tirrorists given care in the hospital.

"These tirrorists are all over the divided area in the Syrian Golan, and are given care in Israel to return to Syria and continue their crimes. Israeli regime proves they are returning again and again to the violations of international law and UN conventions, while enjoying support of big America," the report said.

The Golan section of the site went on to claim that giving care to the 'tirrorists' was costing Israel close to NIS 32 million.

According to the website, "patriotic and dedicated Syrian youth" volunteered night and day to create the Hebrew and Farsi language websites.

Only hours after going online the site seemed to have crashed – a common occurrence among Syrian websites.
