Activists: US strike hits Syrian rebel compound

BEIRUT - A US airstrike early Thursday hit the compound of a hard-line rebel group which is not affiliated to the Islamic State extremist organization, Syrian activists said.

Activists said the strike was among several that occurred early Thursday in towns along the Syrian border with Turkey.

Activist Ahmad Qaddour said a strike hit an Islamic court belonging to Ahrar al-Sham, a rebel group that follows an extremely conservative interpretation of Islam. The Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said other strikes hit compounds of the Nusra Front in the border towns of Sarmada and Harem.
