Tel Aviv planning winter gay pride festival

New campaign aims to attract LGBT tourists from all around the world to Israel during Christmas holiday.

Tel Aviv's gay pride events, which took place in the city in June, were hugely successful and attracted tens of thousands of gay tourists from around the world, leaving the municipality and Tourism Ministry hungry for more.

Consequently, the Israeli metropolis is planning a mini-festival in December through January in a bid to encourage members of Europe's LGBT community to visit the city and enjoy the convenient winter temperature, the sea and water sports, the exciting nightlife, the rich culture, the culinary and all the other good things Tel Aviv has to offer.

The Nonstop Gay Festival will be held from December 24 to January 7 and will include a variety of activities, including shows and performances in English. Most of the activities will be free of charge.

During that period, the Tel Aviv Municipality said Wednesday, the city's hotels will offer special deals on vacation packages.

The events planned as part of the winter festival include a street party on Rothschild Boulevard and chill out parties at the Hilton Beach, as well as special nightlife events organized by the city's LGBT clubs.

In addition, a film marathon will be held at the Cinematheque, special offers will be given at water sports club, and cultural and tourist institutions will offer reductions.

The campaign encouraging gay tourists from around the world to visit the festival will feature an icon of a snowman made out of sand, wearing underpants or a swimsuit with the pride flag on them and holding a flag reading 20°C – stressing the Israeli winter's clear advantage over the European winter.

Information on the events and special offers throughout the festival will be available on the Visit Tel Aviv website.
