Abbas to German Foreign Minister: Israel caused escalation at Temple Mount
Germany's Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier called for a return to peace negotiations between Israel and the Palestinians on a visit to Ramallah on Saturday. Steinmeier met with President Abbas and with Foreign Affairs Minister Riyad al-Maliki.
President Abbas complained of "dangerous escalation caused by the Israeli government, especially at the Temple Mount."
"There is no replacement for the peace negotiations to accomplish a two-state solution with a Palestinian state that lives in peace and security aside Israel," said Steinmeier prior to his scheduled visit to Israel on Sunday.
