Ministerial Committee passes bill prohibiting mobile phone usage on crosswalks

The Ministerial Committee on Legislation approved a bill prohibiting mobile phone usage and use of electronic devices connected to headphones for pedestrians on crosswalks. The bill was initiated by MK Hamad Amar (Yisrael Beiteinu) who also serves as chairman of the Knesset lobby for road safety.

The bill will be submitted for a preliminary reading in the Knesset plenum on Wednesday.

"A pedestrian who is crossing the street, even if the crosswalk is marked, will be a lot safer without the use of a cellular device," said Amer.
