Germany and Sweden: Hundreds of citizens have joined Islamic State group
High-ranking officials in Sweden and Germany reported that hundreds of their citizens joined the ranks of the Islamic State group in Iraq and Syria. German Interior Minister Thomas de Maizière said, “We estimate that 550 of our citizens have already joined the Islamic State group, just a few days ago there were only 450.”
Meanwhile, Director General of the Swedish Security Service Anders Thornberg said that 300 Swedish citizens left Sweden and joined the Islamic State group. “We know for certain of about one hundred cases, and suspect hundreds of more and presume that there are cases that have not been reported,” said Thornberg.
