Denmark to vote on recognition of Palestine in January

The Danish Parliament will vote in January on the recognition of a Palestinian state, according to The Observer.

A first debate regarding the issue will be conducted in two weeks, while the Danish prime minister and defense minister have already announced their intent to oppose the proposal.

One of the promoters of the proposal, parliament member Holger K. Nielsen, admitted that "our chance of passing (the bill) is low."

After Sweden's decision to recognize Palestine, several neighboring countries, including Denmark, announced they would not follow suit. If the Danish proposal is indeed rejected, it would be the first vote in a European parliament to not recognize the state of Palestine.
