Be'er Sheva mayor asks Netanyahu to stop development of new Negev communities

The mayor of Be'er Sheva, Ruvik Danilovich, appealed to Prime Minister Netanyahu on Thursday and requested that he not hold a cabinet meeting to discuss an initiative to establish new townships in Israel's Negev region.

According to Danilovich, the initiative by MK Uri Ariel (Bayit Yehudi) to establish new townships in southern Israel would harm the development and consolidation of the oldest communities in the Negev. "Finances should be invested in the existing communities so as not to deplete them of their strong population and create social gaps," said Danilovich.

Danilovich sent a similar request to Finance Minister Yair Lapid and Housing Minister Uri Ariel.
