Internal Affairs Committee approves 2nd and 3rd reading for Prevention of Infiltration Law

The Internal Affairs and Environment Committee approved a second and third reading of the amendment to the Prevention of Infiltration Law, which would limit the holding of asylum seekers that entered Israel before the law was passed to 20 months at the Holot detention facility. The new amendment comes after the Supreme Court rejected a previous version of the law which determined that the detention period would not be limited in time.

The bill further states that asylum seekers who infiltrate Israel after the law takes effect will be imprisoned for three months at the Saharonim facility and then undergo a period of 20 months at the Holot detention facility.
