EU confirms the resumption of Iran negotiations on December 17

The European Union confirmed on Friday the resumption of negotiations on the Iranian nuclear program on December 17 in Geneva.

 

"As it was announced after the last meeting of the 5 + 1 on 24 November in Vienna, the political directors of the 5 + 1 and Iran will meet again Dec. 17, 2014 in Geneva for a one-day meeting to to continue diplomatic efforts to find a comprehensive solution and long term," said the EU diplomatic service in a statement.

 

Iran announced on Thursday evening the resumption of nuclear talks with major powers "5 + 1" (China, USA, France, UK, Russia and Germany) on 17 December in Geneva.

 

After failing to find a full and final settlement on the controversial Tehran's nuclear program in Vienna on November 24, the "5 + 1" and the Islamic Republic have extended an interim agreement in November 2013 and extended discussions to July 1, 2015.

 

The great powers required Iran to reduce its nuclear capabilities, to prevent it has a day of the atomic bomb. Tehran claims its right to full civil nuclear energy and calls for the lifting of Western economic sanctions.
