Likud Court orders cancellation of reserved spots on party's Knesset list

Faction's court approves petition filed by MK Moshe Feiglin, disqualifies vote allowing Netanyahu to save slots, hold early primaries.

The Likud party's court rejected on Monday Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's motion to hold early primaries on December 31. The court also rescinded the positions Netanyahu requested to be reserved on the party's Knesset list.

The petition to the court was filed by MK Moshe Feiglin, Netanyahu's competition for the leadership of Likud – despite faction delegates approving the proposal at a vote conducted last week.

The ruling was passed down by the Likud court, composed of three justices, one of which dissented. Given the complex issues discussed the in ruling, the Likud's general counsel filed a request for an additional session with a panel of five judges to convene on Tuesday.

The faction's court first examined the affair for a number of days and decided on Monday morning to set the elections for the Likud leadership on December 31, while the date for the primaries for the Knesset list will be chosen later.

Some 65 percent of the party delegates voted for pushing up the primaries for both the leadership and the list, as well as Netanyahu's request to reserve the 11th and 22nd spots on the list.
