Islamic State militants took responsibility in a video for the 2013 assassination of two Tunisian opposition members, Choki Belaid and Mohammed Brahmi.
The politicians were killed by anonymous gunmen, and their death rocked the country, bringing a wave of protests against the rule of the Islamist Ennadha party. Ahead of the second round of elections for the presidency, scheduled for Sunday, Islamic State operatives threatened to commit further terror attacks on Tunisian soil.
