Pentagon confirms fatal strike on al-Shabab intel chief
WASHINGTON - The Pentagon confirmed Wednesday that a US airstrike killed the intelligence chief of the al-Shabab extremist group in Somalia.
In a brief statement, the Pentagon said the strike killed Tahlil Abdishakur on Monday. It said US drone aircraft fired several Hellfire missiles to hit a vehicle carrying the al-Shabab intelligence chief.
The Pentagon said his death will "significantly impact" the group's ability to conduct attacks against the Somali government and its people, as well as US allies in the region.
