Israel 'disappointed' with French support for Palestinian motion

The French ambassador to Israel, Patrick Maisonnave, was summoned for a talk at the Foreign Ministry over his country's support for the Palestinians at the Security Council this week. The deputy director-general of European affairs at the ministry, Aviv Shir-On, expressed Israel's disappointment with the French position.

The French ambassador noted that his country supported the initiative to set a timetable for an Israeli withdrawal from the territories because the French government believed it would hasten the return of Israel and the Palestinians to negotiations.
