Egyptian report: Hamas planned New Year's Eve attacks in Sinai
Egyptian security sources claimed on Monday that Hamas terror cells had planned to carry out attacks during New Year's Eve celebrations in the Sinai desert in order to lead to "anarchy" in the peninsula, according to a report by the Al-Youm Al-Sabi newspaper.
The report came in view of the incident which occurred last Friday in which a Palestinian was killed by gunfire near the Egyptian border between Sinai and Gaza. According to the newspaper, the Palestinian who was killed was a Hamas operative who had tried to illegally cross the border along with three other Hamas operatives who gave themselves up.
