Video shows execution of Egypt officer by Sinai extremists
A video has emerged showing the execution of an Egyptian police captain by extremists in the restive northern part of the Sinai Peninsula.
The footage, which circulated on social media Monday, shows the officer's kidnapping at gunpoint earlier this month by men armed with automatic weapons and a rocket-propelled grenade launcher.
In a later scene, the officer speaks to the camera, holding back tears as he identifies himself. He shows his pistol to explain that he was armed when captured "by the Mujahedeen of the Province of Sinai," the name used by Islamic militants who have pledged allegiance to the Islamic State group.
In the final scene, the officer is shot in the head while kneeling. Egyptian authorities had announced his killing earlier this month.
