Israeli conductor dies during concert in Switzerland

Israel Yinon collapsed during concert at KKL cultural center in city of Lucerne, declared death after attempts to resuscitate him fail.

Israeli conductor Israel Yinon, 59, died on Thursday night after he collapsed during a concert at the KKL cultural center in Lucerne, Switzerland.

 

 

Yinon fell face first to the floor and doctors present immediately rushed to help him. He was then taken to hospital but could not be resuscitated.

 

Yinon's death, reported Friday by the media in Lucerne, was confirmed to AFP by a spokesman for the KKL, the famous concert hall in the city.

 

The conductor directed a performance of "An Alpine Symphony" by German composer Richard Strauss.

 

The international conductor studied music theory and composition at the Rubin Academy of Music in Tel Aviv and at the Academy of Music in Jerusalem.

 

Over the years, Yinon served as a guest conductor with numerous orchestras, including the BBC Symphony Orchestra, the Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra, the Royal Philharmonic London, the Royal Flemish Philharmonic Antwerp, the NDR Radio Philharmonic, the Vienna Symphony Orchestra and the German Symphony Orchestra Berlin.

 

He won awards in Switzerland, Germany, the Czech Republic and Austria.
