Test of gun finds only DNA of deceased Argentine prosecutor

Lead investigator says traces are 'undoubtedly' a match for Alberto Nisman and that elevator security camera was not functioning.

Testing of the pistol used to kill a prosecutor who had leveled incendiary charges against Argentina's president has found traces of DNA only belonging to him, the lead investigator in the case said Friday.

Investigator Viviana Fein said Friday that traces of DNA found on the pistol, its ammunition and other items from the scene "undoubtedly" matched that of prosecutor Alberto Nisman.

She also said a security camera in the service elevator of his apartment building was not working and there were no cameras in its stairwell.

Alberto Nisman was found dead in his apartment on January 18, hours before he was to detail allegations that President Christina Fernandez de Kirchner protected former Iranian officials accused of orchestrating the 1994 car-bombing of a Jewish center in Buenos Aires.

On January 18, the man who gave Nisman the gun that killed him said that the prosecutor feared for the safety of his adult daughters and didn't trust the policemen protecting him. Diego Lagomarsino claimed Nisman said a day before his death that he didn't trust his security detail.

A police source said on Friday night that the ten officers in Nisman's security detail were taken in for questioning.

According to the source, investigators were examining how long it took the two officers posted outside Nisman's door to inform their commanders that he did not answer his phone.

Fernandez Kirchner has cast aspersions on her country's spy agency, suggesting that it may be responsible for Nisman's death and that it should be shut down.

Sources recently said that the story was more complicated, claiming that Fernandez Kirchner has been in open conflict with her own spy agency for two years, following a deal in which she enlisted Iran's help to investigate the bombing. "It was like she switched sides ... and was suddenly friends with Iran," said a source. "That's what this (dispute) is all about."

Meanwhile, the journalist who broke the story of Nisman's death fled Argentina and landed in Israel last week, citing fears for his safety.
