Merkel declines Putin invitation to attend celebration of Allied victory over Nazi Germany
German Chancellor Angela Merkel declined an invitation from Russian President Vladimir Putin to attend the May 9 military parade in Moscow celebrating the 70th anniversary of the Allied victory over Nazi Germany,
a spokesman in Berlin said Wednesday.
"The Chancellor will not honor" the invitation, but will go to Moscow the day after the celebration at the Red Square to lay a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier with Putin, said a spokesman for the government German.
