US Secret Service chief forcefully denies reports of crash

None

The recently installed US Secret Service director is going on the offensive in Congress, pushing back hard against news reports that two senior agents crashed a government vehicle into a security barrier at the White House after a night of drinking earlier this month.

In a prepared statement obtained by The Associated Press, Joseph Clancy says earlier reports that two senior agents crashed a vehicle into security barrier at the White House were inaccurate. He says video of the incident showed the vehicle driving at a low rate of speed when it pushed aside a plastic barrel.

Clancy says allegations that the agents had been drinking before the March 4 incident are still being investigated by the Homeland Security Department's inspector general.
