White House says Obama called to congratulate Netanyahu on reelection

US President Barack Obama called to congratulate Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on his reelection, the White House said Thursday. In the call, Obama reaffirmed US commitment to a two state-solution that "results in a secure Israel alongside a sovereign and viable Palestine". Obama and Netanyahu agreed to continue consultations on a range of issues, including the "difficult path forward" on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

During their conversation, Obama emphasized the importance the US places on military, intelligence and security cooperation with Israel. The US president also told Netanyahu the US is focused on reaching a comprehensive nuclear deal with Iran that prevents the country from acquiring nuclear weapons and verifies the peaceful nature of its nuclear program.
