Italian airline Alitalia says it has suspended a pilot who is under investigation for firing a gun during a family dispute on Easter Sunday.
Alitalia said Wednesday that the pilot was suspended Monday immediately after investigators in Tuscany reported the incident to the airline. Alitalia said a decision on the terms of the suspension would be made after prosecutors complete their investigation.
Italian news agency ANSA said pilot Maurizio Foglietti is suspected of firing shots inside his parents' home in Tuscany but not of aiming the weapon at anyone. Foglietti is under investigation for making a serious threat and causing damage, neither of which calls for preventive detention.
Pictures of Foglietti with Italian President Sergio Mattarella appeared on Twitter in February after the pilot flew the president to Palermo.
