4 convicted in France for helping Chechen jihadis in Syria

A Paris court has convicted four members of a short-lived group of charges related to providing logistical support to Chechen jihadis in Syria.

The youngest member of the group, Khamzat Ilyasov, 20, was sentenced to five years in prison. It was the harshest sentence in Thursday's trial as he was the only one of the four who had traveled to Syria. Bai-Ali Mahaouri, 46, was sentenced to four years in prison for providing logistical, financial and other support to the Chechen fighters in Syria. Two cousins, each 27 years old, received two-year sentences for their roles in the network, which was active from September 2012 to November 2013.
