Report: Senior Syrian intelligence officer killed
The Lebanese Al Mayadeen network, which is associated with Hezbollah and Syria's government, reported Friday that a senior Syrian intelligence officer and close associate of Bashar Assad, Rustum Ghazaleh, has died. In recent months rumors about Ghazaleh have swirled, but the report from a network linked to the Syrian regime adds validity to the rumors.
Ghazaleh served as the head of political security in Syrian intelligence. No official Syrian source confirmed the report of his death.
