President Rivlin: Protests are essential tool for democracy but violence is not the solution

President Reuven Rivlin said Monday morning that "Protests are an essential tool for democracy, but violence is not the solution. We cannot let a handful of violent, and out of control individuals silence the legitimate cry." Rivlin's words came after the protest held by Israelis of Ethiopian descent on Sunday that ended with violent clashes between protesters and police.

Rivlin added that "protesters opened an open and bleeding wound in the heart of Israeli society, of a community that is fighting discrimination, racism and a lack of a response."
