Ontario and Israel mark decade of successful joint R&D projects
Canadian province invests further six million dollars in collaborations with strong economic focus, such as medical devices and clean technologies.
A decade-long research and development partnership between Israel and Ontario has received by a six million-dollar investment in joint Israeli-Canadian R&D projects from the Canadian province.
Ontario's Minister of Research and Innovation Reza Moridi visited Israel last week to announce the investment.
The partnership program, according to a memorandum of understanding signed 10 years ago, will continue to support projects with a strong economic focus, in the fields of medical devices, information and communication technologies, clean technologies and life sciences.
During the visit, Israeli Chief Scientist Avi Hasson praised what the "highly effective" the partnership between the two sides.
"The Ontario-Israel Collaboration Program (OICP) leads the way for bilateral technology cooperation between Ontario and Israel," he said.
"The OICP is a highly effective gateway that enables the Office of the Chief Scientist to connect with ideal technology partners across Ontario, and facilitate cooperative R&D that benefits both jurisdictions."
Moridi said that the Ontario government recognizes that it needs collaboration to both compete internationally and create future jobs. "That is why we welcome this continued partnership with Israel," he said.
Following his talks with Hasson, Moridi attended a reception at the Canadian ambassador's residence in Herzliya Pituach.
Ambassador Vivian Bercovici also welcomed the renewed agreement between Ontario and Israel.
