Ehud Barak, former prime minister of Israel, has book deal

Ehud Barak, the former prime minister of Israel and one of his country's most decorated soldiers, has a book deal.

St. Martin's Press told The Associated Press on Monday that it is publishing Barak's "My Country, My Life" in March 2016. Barak, 73, will write about his rise in the military and in politics. In 1976, he helped devise the Operation Entebbe raid, when Israeli forces rescued passengers on an Air France plane hijacked to Uganda's Entebbe airport. As prime minister from 1999-2001, he was part of a narrowly failed attempt to reach a comprehensive peace deal with the Palestinians, the negotiations collapsing in the final weeks of President Bill Clinton's administration. Barak later served as defense minister in the cabinet of his political rival Benjamin Netanyahu. He retired in 2013.
