Obama: No military solution to Iran's nuclear program

There is no military solution to Iran's nuclear program, President Barack Obama told the Israeli public, in an interview partially aired Monday night to be broadcast in full Tuesday.

"I can, I think, demonstrate, not based on any hope but on facts and evidence and analysis, that the best way to prevent Iran from having a nuclear weapon is a verifiable, tough agreement," Obama said in the interview on Channel 2.

"Even if the United States participates, it would temporarily slow down an Iranian nuclear program but it will not eliminate it," he said.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu says the emerging nuclear agreement with Iran is a bad deal and needs to be tougher. Israel has refused to rule out a military option to preventing Iran from getting the bomb, as it views a nuclear-armed Iran a threat to its existence.
