Former Ramat Gan mayor jailed for 5 years, fined NIS 1.5 million in graft conviction

Former Ramat Gan mayor Tzvi Bar was jailed Thursday for five and a half years and fined NIS 1.5 million after he was found guilty of corruption.

"The message has to be clear - the corruption has to end," the judge wrote in his verdict.

Bar, 80, was found guilty of receiving NIS 1.9 million in bribes in return for advancing certain real estate projects.

The former mayor said that he would appeal the conviction, and that his conscience was clear.
