Security footage shows Shavuot eve stabbing attack

Video shows terrorist, who told police he intended to hurt Jews, stabbing two yeshiva students and then running away.

Security footage cleared for publication on Thursday sheds light on a stabbing attack in Jerusalem on Shavuot eve, which left two yeshiva students wounded.

The two 17-year-olds were a part of a group of yeshiva students making their way at around 2:30 am to the Western Wall for a Tikkun Leil Shavuot prayer.

A Palestinian assailant stabbed two of the students, inflicting light-to-moderate wounds.

The suspect is 20-year-old John Kakish, a Christian Arab living in Jerusalem's Old City. He told the Shin Bet and the police that he planned to hurt Jews.

The video shows him walking back and forth for minutes. After noticing the group of yeshiva students, the suspect is seen getting near them, pulling out a knife, stabbing two of them and then running away.

In his flight, the suspect dumped his coat and the knife in one of the Old City's alleys. The suspect also changed clothes and shaved - all in an attempt to throw the police off his scent.

The security center's commander, who saw the attack on the security camera, directed Israeli security forces to the suspect.

Police found posts on his Facebook page in which he calls for the liberation of Palestine and Jerusalem.

His remand has been extended until Monday.
