Record number of passengers expected at Ben-Gurion Airport this summer

According to data compiled by Israel Airports Authority, over 3.2 million travelers will pass through Israel's international airport in July and August.

The summer of 2015 may turn out to be the busiest summer in the history of Ben-Gurion Airport. According to data compiled by the Israel Airports Authority (IAA), more than 3.2 million passengers (Israelis and tourists, on arriving and departing flights) are expected to pass through Israel's international airport throughout July and August – a forecast which is very close to the figures of the summer of 2013.

The highest traffic is expected to be recorded between Tel Aviv and Greece, Turkey (for connecting flights), Germany, the United States, Italy and France.

According to the forecast, 1.56 million passengers are expected to pass through Ben-Gurion Airport in July (a 6% increase from the same period last year) and 1.7 passengers in August (a 7% increase).

Israelis' departures abroad in July and August are expected to set a new record in any event, due to an 11% increase in the number of departures abroad by Israelis. The summer months will likely break the record of 2013. The summer of 2014 recorded a slight drop in Israelis' departures abroad due to Operation Protective Edge.

Ben-Gurion Airport General Director Shmuel Zakai called on passengers to use the online check-in service at home before arriving at the airport in order to save time and enjoy their stay at the terminal.

"The check-in process can also be performed at the self-registration kiosks around the terminal. The 'kiosks' are user friendly and provide the passengers with a convenient independent service," he added.

Equality in security check

Ben-Gurion Airport has added this year more long-term parking spots, as well as technological means to improve the arrival and departure process in terms of security checks, passport control and flight registration. Passengers are advised to download the Ben-Gurion Airport app to their smartphones in order to receive information about their flight, available parking spaces, etc.

Zakai added that "the security check technologies will allow all passengers a quick and equal check. The passport control allows swift passage without queues, so that all the passengers will be able to enjoy what the terminal has to offer, such as exhibitions, shows planned during the summer, activities for children and shopping at the airport's renewed duty-free shops."

The Population and Immigration Authority has called on all passengers to make sure that their passports are valid for a period of at least six months from the date they enter their destination. New stands have been placed at Ben-Gurion Airport for owners of biometric passports in order to shorten the passport control queues.
