VIENNA - A day before a self-imposed deadline for reaching a nuclear accord, Iran is pushing to lift the UN arms embargo on the country as a separate, parallel deal. That's a demand the United States opposes, however, as it seeks to limit Tehran's Mideast clout.
A senior Iranian official said Monday his country and six world powers are working on a UN resolution that endorses any future nuclear deal.
Lifting the arms embargo would be separate from the long-term deal that foresees limits on Iran's nuclear programs in exchange for relief from crippling sanctions on the Islamic Republic.
