State Attorney's Office agrees to postpone Olmert sentence pending appeal
The State Attorney's Office agreed on Wednesday to postpone former prime minister Ehud Olmert's sentence, given to him as part of the Talansky affair, pending his appeal.
In May, the Jerusalem District Court sentenced Olmert to eight months in prison and eight months suspended sentence. He also received a NIS 100,000 fine. This punishment is expected to be added to the six years in prison Olmert was sentenced to as part of the Holyland affair, the serving of which is also pending appeal.
Olmert was convicted of taking hundreds of thousands of shekels for his own use, most of which from businessman Morris Talansky, while serving as the minister of Industry, Trade and Labor. According to the judges, the former prime minister failed to report this money to the state, as he is required to do by law.
