UN resolution would end Iran sanctions in 10 years

UNITED NATIONS - A draft UN resolution to endorse and implement the Iran nuclear deal says a key measure that would "snap back" UN sanctions if Iran fails to meet its obligations will end in 10 years, along with all other provisions.

The draft, obtained Wednesday by The Associated Press, states that none of the seven previous UN sanctions resolutions "shall be applied" after 10 years, and "the Security Council will have concluded its consideration of the Iranian nuclear issue."

But a US official familiar with the details of the resolution said the five veto-wielding permanent members of the council agreed that a new resolution would be adopted at the end of 10 years to reinstate the "snap back" mechanism for an additional five years.
